Canberra Eaglehawk Ibis Styles Hotel Family Review
If you’re visiting Canberra, or perhaps just passing through on the way to the snow, we’ve found a great family-friendly stop off for you – the Ibis Styles Canberra Eaglehawk hotel…
Canberra is a great place to visit – there’s so many things for families to do! You can visit Floriade, Parliament House, the Canberra Zoo, National Museum, War Memorial, Questacon Science Museum, the Mint, Australian National Botanic Gardens and tons of great children’s adventure parks – you name it – you’re family is not going to be bored in Canberra!
However finding family-friendly budget accommodation in Canberra where you don’t have to go miles off the beaten path is not so easy. The ibis Styles Canberra Eaglehawk motel is conveniently located close to the main entrance to Canberra from Sydney, yet is set back far enough off the Federal Highway to be very quiet and peaceful. This makes it a perfect Canberra base.
The airport is only ten minutes drive away, as is the Canberra Civic city shopping centre and Floriade, plus most of the museums are no more than 15 minutes away. The best thing about staying at ibis Styles Canberra, is that you’re not staying in noisy Canberra suburbia, but a peaceful bushland setting.
Set in beautiful native bush gardens, the Canberra ibis hotel comes complete with visiting locals – colourful parrots feast on native flowering trees everywhere, plump rabbits graze the lawns, and even kangaroos drop by here! It’s an Australian flora and fauna delight.
There are several attractive colonial-style brick units scattered amongst the rambling gardens. With 151 rooms suited to all budgets, there’s plenty of accommodation available here, yet it doesn’t feel large or crowded thanks to the secluded bushland and gardens.
There are excellent conference facilities here too, making this Canberra hotel is perfect for the business traveller.
With a large resort-style swimming pool, gym, tennis court, children’s playground, bar & lounge, restaurant and outdoor areas, plus the convenience of a guest’s laundry, this hotel has a lot to offer family travellers who have just completed a long drive. The whole complex has a distinct luxury resort feel to it, and is a great rest and recovery-stop!
Accommodation options for families
We stayed in a spacious, well-appointed family deluxe room, priced at a very budget-savvy $144 per night. But there is also the super-roomy family suite available if you want to self-cater with a kitchenette – or just have the kids in their own room! You can see our video of a family suite here
Our family deluxe room was well equipped with two comfortable queen beds, bed side tables, large wardrobes, cabinet, large mirror and desk. Everything was pristine – neat and clean. The beds were comfortable, the shower hot and strong, and everything worked as it should. There are plenty of lights, lamps and power points, plus a glass-topped desk for the business traveller.
There was a good-sized modern bathroom complete with a hairdryer and bathroom accessories such as shower gel, soap, shampoo, etc. – which meant we had all the essentials we needed.
The room featured a reverse-cycle air conditioner/heater (so lovely and cosy in winter!), a flat screen television with cable tv and movie options,
complimentary tea and coffee making facilities plus an ironing board and iron, A bottle of Tyrrell’s wine sat on the desk as an optional stand-by for thirsty travellers!
We all slept soundly in our comfy, quiet room, and arose in the morning well-rested and hungry! Breakfast in the dining room was located at the main reception building. It was a yummy affair of a hot food buffet, cereals (including kid-friendly ones!), juices, tea, coffee, pastries, toast – you name it. We were full-up and ready for the day after such a satisfying brekkie on a cold winter’s morning.
In the evening, the restaurant serves some great options too, including children’s meals, so when you want to relax, you don’t have to go off-site searching for dinner.
Wherever you go at the Canberra ibis Eaglehawk hotel, a stand-out feature is the friendly service. Staff could not have been more accommodating and welcoming to us. Any request was met promptly and with a smile – from house keeping to reception, the ibis Styles staff really do go out of their way to make you feel at home.
One of the main features of the ACT Ibis Styles motel is the huge outdoor swimming pool – my kids were itching to go and swim and play in it, but alas, it gets a little chilly in Canberra at this time of year (early September), so we had to agree to return in summer to try it out!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the ibis Styles Canberra Eaglehawk – this is a fantastic Canberra accommodation option for travelling families!
